Four Letter Words

A coming‑of‑age story set in the world of queer online kink, Four Letter Words explores the thrill, risk, and tenderness of seeking connection in a time of isolation. Blending live projection with intimate storytelling, the production invites audiences into Gemma’s private world, asking how we search for identity, belonging, and closeness when the world feels out of reach.

This production of Four Letter Words was a thrust/traverse performance in Liverpool Playhouse Studio. The AV design was realised with 3 projectors and 3 live feed cameras. This included a wireless phone camera.

As well as prepared content, the live feed cameras were a way of exploring how different online interactions feel, working as a company to create ways of conveying intimacy and connection, without leaning on literal depictions of text exchanges and video calls and allowing the projection to underpin the role of imagination and fantasy in how we interact online.
